JD Davison highlights: Watch new Celtics guard's best college plays

JD Davison might not be on the Boston Celtics' NBA-level roster this fall, but he could turn some heads this summer.

The Celtics selected Davison, a 6-foot-3 point guard out of Alabama, with the No. 53 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft on Thursday night. While Davison's stats don't jump off the page -- he averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists and 2.9 turnovers per game as a freshman last season and shot just 30.1 percent from 3-point range -- he can jump out of the gym.

How close were Celtics to trading up in draft? Brad Stevens explains

"Very young, very explosive. That’s pretty obvious," Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said of the 19-year-old Davison. "Has the ability to get inside the paint and make plays."

Davison's highlight reel from his lone year at Alabama includes several examples of that explosiveness.

Even if Davison can't catch on in Boston, he should be exciting to watch at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where he'll join international prospects Yam Madar and Juhann Begarin in what should be a fun backcourt. The Celtics kick off their Summer League slate July 9.
