Kyrie Irving breaks the hearts of Knicks fans

The Boston-New York sports rivalry is in full swing this week. The Red Sox and Yankees square off in the ALDS tonight, but Kyrie Irving decided to rip out the hearts of New York sports fans before the Sox even had a chance.

Irving told the TD Garden crowd at open practice last night that he plans on re-signing with the Celtics. The pending free agent delighted the Boston crowd by saying "If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here next year."

The New York Post bemoaned Irving's decision with the headline "Ky Me a River."

The Knicks were seen as a possible destination for Irving, who grew up in New Jersey, if he had opted to leave Boston. Knicks fans were hoping to revitalize their franchise by bringing in Irving, and maybe Jimmy Butler, to play with blossoming superstar Kristaps Porzingas.

Instead, Knicks fans will have to watch as Irving and the Celtics work to become an Eastern Conference powerhouse.

Sorry, not sorry, New York.
