Lakers may have edge over Celtics for Anthony Davis trade, per report

The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers may not have to wait until a future NBA Finals matchup to renew their historic rivalry.

The Celtics and Lakers reportedly are on a very short list of teams who could trade for superstar Anthony Davis if the New Orleans Pelicans make him available.

NBA insider Chris Mannix recently noted on NBC Sports Boston that the C's "far and away" have the most assets to make a run at Davis. But according to Get More Sports' Chris Sheridan, Boston still might be second fiddle to L.A. in any potential Davis sweepstakes.

Sheridan also points out the Celtics' superior assets, but adds a Davis trade to the Lakers has "been in the works for years."

According to Sheridan, there's another piece of the puzzle that shouldn't be overlooked: Davis and Lakers star LeBron James are represented by the same agency, Klutch Sports.

There are all sorts of qualifiers here, of course. The Pelicans only would trade Davis if they fell completely out of the playoff picture, and they're currently very much in the hunt at 10-11. And unless Boston wants to send Kyrie Irving to New Orleans, it can't trade for Davis until the offseason, thanks to the "Rose Rule."

But as long as the trade door remains slightly open for one of the NBA's premier talents, the rumors will continue to swirl.
