Marcus Smart testing the apparel free agent waters

BOSTON -- Marcus Smart is back on the free agent market … sort of.

Smart, who inked a four-year, $52 million deal with the Celtics in 2018, is currently looking at potential apparel companies to sign with heading into this season.

“I’m an (apparel) free agent right now, checking out shoes and trying out other shoes and seeing who I can get a deal with, things like that,” Smart told NBC Sports Boston.

The 6-foot-4 guard added that he has yet to make a decision on who he will sign with, but there is a current leader of the pack.

“Everybody is open,” Smart said while adding, “Right now, Puma is the front-runner. But like I said, I’m just trying out (different shoes).”

Puma currently has a number of current NBA players among its clients, including former Celtic and current Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier.

In addition to Puma, Smart said Under Armour and Adidas are also under serious consideration.
