The Anthony Davis sweepstakes officially is underway after the New Orleans Pelicans superstar center, through his agent Rich Paul, requested a trade Monday.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics are the teams that have most often been involved in trade rumors surrounding Davis, so it's no surprise oddsmakers have pegged these NBA rivals as the favorites to land the Pelicans star.

The Lakers being the favorites make a ton of sense. The first reason is they need another superstar to pair with LeBron James. The Lakers have a ton of assets to dangle in a potential Davis trade, highlighted by Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball. Davis' agent is longtime friends with James, too.
Los Angeles is able to trade for Davis before the trade deadline, while Boston does not have that ability because of the designated player rule (explained here).
