Here's where Celtics stand among betting favorites to land Durant via trade

NBA free agency is still a few hours away and we already have a massive story involving arguably the league's best player.

Brooklyn Nets superstar forward Kevin Durant, according to multiple reports, has requested a trade. Durant signed with the Nets in the summer of 2019 and already wants out.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat are among the teams on Durant's list of preferred destinations.

Reports of Durant's desire to join the Suns or Heat vaulted those two teams to the top of the betting odds for his next home.

Here's the full list of the favorites to land Durant in the tweet below:

The Dallas Mavericks being third on this list is a little surprising. Aside from Luka Doncic, the Mavs don't have a roster of appealing trade assets, especially if Jalen Brunson leaves as a free agent. Same thing with the Portland Trail Blazers. Outside of Damian Lillard, the Blazers don't have many enticing assets.

The Boston Celtics are seventh on this list of betting favorites to land Durant. The Celtics actually do have the assets required to land a player of Durant's caliber. The real debate is whether the Celtics should include someone like young star Jaylen Brown in a potential Durant deal.

Giving up on a 25-year-old wing in Brown for a soon-to-be 34-year-old Durant would be a risk for Boston. Durant is still a top three player when healthy, but he's battled plenty of injuries in recent years and will be paid an average of $48 million over the next four seasons.

The Nets have already received calls from "more than half the league" regarding Durant, per Wojnarowski. This is going to be one of the most intense and talked about trade sweepstakes in league history.
