Report: Celtics to lose G-League coach to Thibodeau's Knicks staff

It looks like Tacko Fall will have a new coach this season.

Darren Erman, the head coach of the Boston Celtics' G-League affiliate Maine Red Claws, is finalizing a deal to join the New York Knicks on head coach Tom Thibodeau's staff, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday.

Erman took over as the Red Claws' head coach last September after four years as the New Orleans Pelicans' associate head coach and led Maine to a 28-14 record, third-best in the G-League.

He worked closely with Boston's rookies -- notably Fall, G-League Rookie of the Year Tremont Waters, Romeo Langford and Carsen Edwards -- during their stints in Maine.

Erman began his NBA coaching career with the Celtics in 2008 and worked alongside Thibodeau on head coach Doc Rivers' staff.

Thibodeau faces a tall task in turning around a Knicks team that's won fewer than 30 games in three straight seasons, but he'll now have a familiar coworker by his side.

It's unclear who will fill Erman's role as the Red Claws' head coach.
