Report: Celtics signing veteran guard Stauskas out of G League

The Boston Celtics don't appear to be done tinkering with their roster as their playoff push heats up.

Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday night that the team is signing veteran guard Nik Stauskas out of the G League to a two-year deal after he combined for 100 points over his last two games for the Grand Rapids Gold.

Stauskas, 28, had appeared in two games this season for the Miami Heat, his first minutes in the NBA since the 2018-19 season. He's since bounced around from the EuroLeague and the G League, spending the majority of this season with the Gold, the primary affiliate of the Denver Nuggets.

Earlier this week, Stauskas had a G League record 38 points in the first half for the Gold, a team with numerous Celtics ties this season. Grand Rapids is coached by former Celtics guard Jason Terry, while Boston recently signed Gold forward Matt Ryan to a two-way contract. Former Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas, who signed with the Charlotte Hornets earlier this week, had also played in Grand Rapids this season.

Stauskas was originally selected eighth overall -- two picks after Marcus Smart -- by the Sacramento Kings in the 2014 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-6 Stauskas, who played high school basketball at St. Mark's in Southboro, Mass., has averaged 5.5 points over 337 games with the Kings, Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers.
