Celtics reportedly waiving Jabari Parker; another move coming?

Jabari Parker won't be part of the Boston Celtics' plans for the rest of the 2021-22 season.

The Celtics plan to waive the veteran forward ahead of the Jan. 10 deadline to guarantee his salary for this season, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Friday.

This isn't a surprising move, as Parker has made a marginal impact for Boston this season (4.4 points per game) while appearing in just 12 games. Keeping him past Jan. 10 would have cost the Celtics $2.2 million, and the C's now will have an open roster spot with the NBA trade deadline about a month away.

Forsberg: Time for Celtics to consider a new path after latest loss

What new president of basketball operations Brad Stevens does with that open roster spot remains to be seen. The Celtics have played frustrating basketball of late, blowing a 25-point lead to the New York Knicks on Thursday and falling to the San Antonio Spurs on a missed Jaylen Brown layup the night before. They've struggled mightily in the fourth quarter and have several glaring needs, notably a facilitating point guard and outside shooting.

The Celtics could look to address those needs ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline, or Stevens could plan for the future by seeking draft assets in a deal. Either way, expect another shoe to drop over the next month-plus.
