NBA Rumors: Kyrie Irving still ‘intensely interested' in Nets after agent change

Kyrie Irving officially is on the open market, and the hierarchy of his suitors is taking further shape.

The Boston Celtics guard remains "intensely interested" in joining the Brooklyn Nets in free agency after changing agents Wednesday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported late Wednesday night.

Wojnarowski added the New York Knicks are "expected to remain competitive" for Irving, who didn't opt into the final year of his contract with Boston and will become an unrestricted free agent June 30.

Irving parted ways with longtime agent Jeff Wechsler on Wednesday to team up with Jay-Z's Roc Nation, which is based in New York.

The Nets have gained steam as an attractive destination for the 27-year-old All-Star, who grew up in nearby West Orange, N.J. There are also reports that Brooklyn is trying to pair Irving with Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant -- who's also represented by Roc Nation -- although Durant's torn Achilles could impact that master plan.

Lest Celtics fans completely dismiss the possibility of Irving re-signing, he still hasn't ruled out a return to Boston, the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett reported Wednesday night. The C's reportedly are working to trade for Anthony Davis in a move they hope would convince Irving to stay.

As it stands now, though, it appears Kyrie is enamored with his hometown team(s) as his decision date draws near.
