NBA rumors: Marcus Morris could back out of Spurs deal, join Knicks in free agency

Marcus Morris reportedly agreed to join the San Antonio Spurs in NBA free agency, but the former Boston Celtics forward might take a different path after an unexpected development with the New York Knicks.

The Knicks, after missing out on the top free agents including Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, signed a bunch of second, third and fourth-tier players with their salary cap space. One of those players who agreed to a contract with the Knicks was Reggie Bullock, but concerns over the veteran guard's health resulted in the two sides working to find a new deal, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

This development with Bullock gives the Knicks more cap space, and it also makes Morris an intriguing option for New York.

The Spurs offer Morris a better chance to be on a playoff team next season, but the Knicks offering more money certainly is appealing, too. Yahoo! Sports' Chris Haynes reported the Knicks have offered Morris a one-year contract around $15 million.

Morris averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds, while shooting 37.5 percent from 3-point range for the Boston Celtics last season. He spent the last two seasons with the Celtics and played a key role as a scorer and versatile defender in head coach Brad Stevens' system.
