The Celtics were considered a potential destination for Murray as they would have been able to take him into their $17.1 million trade exception. The 25-year-old point guard has two years left on his team-friendly four-year, $64 million contract.

With all of its first-round picks from 2023 to 2027, Boston certainly had the capital to acquire Murray in a deal. Instead, the rising star will form a scary Hawks backcourt alongside Trae Young.

Murray averaged 21.1 points, 9.2 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game last season.
