Report: Sixers have reached out to Doc Rivers for HC job

Could Doc Rivers soon return to the Eastern Conference?

The former Boston Celtics head coach was fired by the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday after seven seasons. L.A. opted to go in a different direction after blowing a 3-1 lead over the Denver Nuggets in this year's Western Conference semifinals.

It didn't take long for Rivers to get the attention of NBA teams with head coaching vacancies. One of those teams is the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

With Brett Brown out as Sixers head coach, Philly reportedly reached out to Rivers about the job opening.

Rivers spent nine years with the Celtics (2004-2013), bringing an NBA title to Boston in 2008. With stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid locked into max deals, it'd be interesting to see what Rivers would be able to accomplish with Philadelphia.

Of course, with Zion Williamson in the fold, the New Orleans Pelicans would be an intriguing landing spot for Rivers as well.
