NBA trade deadline live: Latest news, rumors on Anthony Davis, others

Share

Are the Boston Celtics expected to make a blockbuster move before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET NBA trade deadline? No.

But they have one very large (6-foot-10, to be exact) reason to be paying very close attention.

That would be New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis, whom the Celtics can't trade for prior to July 1 unless they part with Kyrie Irving. Thursday is the last day teams like the Los Angeles Lakers can try to poach Davis before the offseason, and Boston will be hoping New Orleans stands pat until 3 p.m.

But there's plenty more happening around the league in what already has been an eventful deadline. So, we're starting a live blog to keep track of all the happenings leading up to 3 p.m. that may impact Boston.

3:09 p.m.: Some housekeeping on the Jabari Bird trade:

3:03 p.m.: The trade deadline officially is over ... which means it's on.

3:02 p.m.: The Celtics indeed have made a move at the last second, trading troubled guard Jabari Bird to the Atlanta Hawks, per Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

2:59 p.m.: There you have it: Davis is staying in New Orleans (for now).

2:56 p.m.: Some notable news on the buyout market involving two New York Knicks players:

2:55 p.m.: Orlando reportedly is high on Fultz, the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, as a reclamation project.

2:45 p.m.: The Markelle Fultz era in Philly is over.

2:41 p.m.: Michael Beasley reportedly will be heading to the buyout market.

2:36 p.m.: If LeBron James can't play with Davis this season, the least L.A. could do is reunite him with old pal Carmelo Anthony...

2:32 p.m.: The Lakers have made a move (for a guy not named Anthony Davis), doing business with their crosstown rival.

2:24 p.m.: Could the rich get richer?

2:22 p.m.: The Los Angeles Clippers have waived big man Marcin Gortat, per The Athletic's Shams Charania -- and Gortat.

1:57 p.m.: The Raptors are sacrificing some depth to acquire Gasol, it appears.

1:54 p.m.: Hold onto your butts: The Toronto Raptors reportedly are nearing a deal to land three-time All-Star Marc Gasol.

Elsewhere, former Celtic Avery Bradley reportedly is on the move to Memphis.

1:41 p.m.: ESPN's Ramona Shelburne with some tasty perspective on the Lakers' pursuit of Davis:

1:35 p.m.: The Denver Nuggets wouldn't do this to our man Isaiah Thomas, would they?

1:25 p.m.: The Celtics may have interest in Enes Kanter on the buyout market, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.

1:12 p.m.: The action is picking up with under two hours to go until the buzzer.

1:04 p.m.: We agree, Frank Kaminsky. (No, we don't know what this is about yet.)

12:56 p.m.: The Milwaukee Bucks are the latest Celtics competitor to bolster their roster for the stretch run.

12:10 p.m.: The Philadelphia 76ers reportedly are trying to gain back some of the depth they lost in the Tobias Harris trade.

11:47 a.m.: ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski bears good news for Celtics fans: Barring a sudden change, it doesn't sound like Davis is heading to the Lakers before the deadline.

11:22 a.m.: The Celtics, content with their current roster, are demanding a king's ransom in any pre-deadline trade talks, according to the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett.

"The word from other teams is the Celts’ counteroffers to any early discussions have been non-starters," Bulpett wrote Thursday.

10:20 a.m.: The Charlotte Hornets reportedly are still pursuing a trade for Memphis Grizzlies big man Marc Gasol. No deal appears imminent now, however.

8:38 a.m.: Don't expect the Celtics to part with backup point guard Terry Rozier before 3 p.m., The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor reports.

"League sources don’t expect the Celtics to move point guard Terry Rozier, who will be a restricted free agent this offseason," O'Connor wrote Wednesday. "Unless Boston is blown away, Rozier is viewed as insurance in case Kyrie Irving leaves, or as a potential sign-and-trade sweetener in a move for Anthony Davis."

7:30 a.m.: A few reported trades came in overnight, including one involving Celtics forward Marcus Morris' twin brother, Markieff Morris. He's heading from the Washington Wizards to the Pelicans in a deal involving Wesley Johnson, per The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The Dallas Mavericks also reportedly traded Harrison Barnes to the Sacramento Kings -- in the middle of their game.
