Stevens no longer the betting favorite for NBA Coach of the Year

What a difference three weeks can make.

Before the NBA season started, oddsmakers were bullish on Brad Stevens' chances of taking home his first NBA Coach of the Year Award. But only three games into the season, not only have the Celtics coach's odds gotten worse, he's no longer the top choice.

Stevens was listed as a 9-1 favorite at the start of December, but on the heels of a 1-2 start, he's now listed as the second option at 12-1, with odds provided by our partner, PointsBet Sportsbook.

Here are the latest betting lines for NBA Coach of the Year, which has a new name surging to the top of the odds list:

Steve Nash, Nets+600
Brad Stevens, Celtics+1200
Erik Spoelstra, Heat+1400
Doc Rivers, 76ers+1400
Frank Vogel, Lakers+1400
Rick Carlisle, Mavericks+1400
Lloyd Pierce, Hawks+1400
Tyronn Lue, Clippers+1400
Monty Williams, Suns+1400

Before the season started, Steve Nash had +2000 odds to win NBA Coach of the Year in his first year at the helm of the Brooklyn Nets. That placed him squarely in the middle of the pack, as 12 coaches had longer odds and 12 others had shorter odds.

Now with the Nets appearing like an Eastern Conference power, Nash finds himself at the head of the class. Though Brooklyn raced out of the gates with a 26-point win over the Warriors and a 28-point win over the Celtics, Nash is now navigating some challenges.

The Nets just dropped a two-point decision to Gordon Hayward and the Hornets on Sunday and starting guard Spencer Dinwiddie will miss the rest of the season with a partially torn ACL. The team's load management efforts also will start Monday when both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving sit out against Memphis.

If Brooklyn can continue to live up to high expectations this season, Nash will certainly earn heavy consideration for Coach of the Year, especially considering he entered the season with zero head coaching experience.

If Nash can do that, maybe even Irving will change his tune after saying, "I don't really see us having a 'head' coach" back in October.
