UPDATE (11:30 p.m. ET) : Apparently Paul Pierce was just trolling us all.

ORIGINAL STORY: The truth is finally out.

11 years ago today, Paul Pierce exited Game 1 of the NBA Finals in the third quarter with a "knee injury." The former Celtic was carried off the court and rolled to the locker room in a wheelchair.

Pierce surprised everyone when he re-entered game only a couple of minutes later. His quick return was deemed a "heroic" one, though the incident sparked plenty of conspiracy theories. Pierce confirmed one of those theories Wednesday night on ESPN's NBA Countdown.

Well, that settles it. Pierce just had to go No. 2.

For what it's worth, Pierce said on NBC Sports Boston's "Anything Is Possible" documentary that he didn't ask for the wheelchair. Credit to the doctor that recommended it, because injury or no injury it still made for excellent theater.
