Pistons-Celtics Instant Overreactions: C's resiliency on display in blowout win

Share

No Marcus Smart, no Gordon Hayward, no problem for the Boston Celtics on Friday night as they blew out the Detroit Pistons, 114-93.

Here are three instant overreactions from the win, which brings the C's to 19-7 on the season.

1. Celtics are showing they're as resilient as any team in the NBA.

Verdict: Not an overreaction

Even if it was against a depleted Pistons squad, this was a statement performance from the Celtics without two of their top players just like Wednesday's road victory over the Mavericks.  Not to mention, they managed to win by 21 with their star Kemba Walker only contributing two points.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown continue to show that the future is bright as the two young guns put up 26 points apiece. Also encouraging was the play of the Celtics' bench, which featured the two guys mentioned below. . .

2. Grant Williams is becoming a lethal 3-point shooter.

Verdict: Overreaction

Remember when Williams started the season on that seemingly never-ending 3-point shooting slump? Well, it's safe to say he's put that behind him.

The 21-year-old hit two of his three 3-point attempts on Friday night and was 8-for-10 from the field for a career-high 18 total points. Outside of Tatum and Brown, Williams was the C's MVP.

Let's just pump the brakes before we consider Williams the second coming of Steph Curry. The rookie still has plenty of work to do offensively. This was just an extremely encouraging output and a reason to get excited about what Williams could contribute off the C's bench going forward.

3. We need more Tacko Fall.

Verdict: Not an overreaction

I mean, did you hear that crowd? Tacko Fall single-handedly stole the show at the end of Friday night's game. In the final four minutes, Fall contributed five points, two rebounds, and a block. It should be a law to put Fall in for at least a couple of minutes in every Celtics home game from this point on.
