Ray Allen details rocky Celtics tenure in new book

The Sporting News got a peak at Ray Allen's upcoming book and you might want so sit down for this:

It reveals Allen didn't get along great with the Celtics, specifically -- wait for it -- Rajon Rondo.

Allen writes that he knew early on in his Boston tenure that he and Kevin Garnett would have issues -- Garnett told him not to dribble at his locker, Allen was offended by Garnett taking the check and talking down to him when they went to dinner, etc. -- but the biggie is the Rondo stuff.

Some stories from the past are repeated -- the trade to Phoenix that fell through, the infamous water-bottle incident with Doc Rivers -- but perhaps the most interesting is that Allen maintains that the Celtics pulled away from a Rondo-for-Chris Paul trade because Rivers felt bad about dumping Rondo on Monty Williams.

That sounds very unbelievable, but it's what Allen supposedly writes. From The Sporting News:

Before the start of the 2011-12 season, during the NBA’s lockout, there were discussions that Rondo would be traded to New Orleans for Chris Paul, but the possibility of a deal fell through, according to reports at the time, because Paul would not commit to signing with Boston when he became a free agent the following summer.

According to Allen, though, the deal fell through for a different reason: 'In the end, Doc decided he couldn’t do that to their coach, Monty Williams. Doc was a mentor to Monty, having coached him in Orlando.'

Allen adds that things got worse after that trade wasn't made. After a confrontation between he and Rondo in April of 2012, Allen said he tried to patch things up with Rondo, but that "Rondo turned a cold shoulder and said, 'I got 11 games to play with you, and that’s it.' ”

When Allen then left as a free agent, he was criticized for following LeBron James, but he maintains that the team's signing of Jason Terry and his issues with Rondo left him little choice.

“So let me see if I got this straight,” Allen writes. “You want to pay me less money. You want to bring me off the bench. You want to continue to run the offense around Rondo. Now tell me again exactly why I would want to sign this contract?”
