BOSTON -- Marcus Smart has reportedly been cleared to start light non-contact shooting, and may possibly return to action on April 27, six weeks after his injury.

Yahoo Sports! reported that the Celtics guard had his right thumb injury re-evaluated in New York City and is “expected to receive clearance to return to game action at six-week mark of surgery.”

The NBA playoff schedule hasn’t been released yet, but Boston is expected to begin its postseason journey on Sunday, April 15. A Game 2 matchup at the TD Garden mostly likely will be on Tuesday, April 17.

Depending on how long Boston’s first-round series lasts, Smart could potentially return near the end of the first round series or, if the Celtics advance, early in the second round.

Smart appeared in 52 games this season, averaging 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
