Report: Rest of G League season expected to be cancelled

The NBA is still holding out hope that they may be able to return from hiatus at some point in the future.

However, things aren't looking quite as good for the G League.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski and Malika Andrews of ESPN, the NBA teams operating G League franchises expect the rest of the season to be cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As Wojnarowski explained, G Leaguers travel on commercial flights and are generally "money-drains" for teams. So, trying to continue the rest of the season in March and April, or moving it, just doesn't seem feasible for the league.

For the Boston Celtics, that will mean that the Maine Red Claws season is likely done. The Red Claws (28-14) had a solid 2019-20 campaign and were led by a number of talented rookies with the Celtics squad. Notably, Tremont Waters and Tacko Fall played extensively for the team and emerged as two of the G League's best players.

Waters averaged 18 points, 7.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game for the C's and was named the G League's Player of the Month for November.

As for Fall, the 7-foot-5 center averaged 12.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game while making better than 70 percent of his shots per game.

Surely, it was a successful season for the Red Claws. We'll see if Waters and Fall can make the Celtics roster next season while the Red Claws will look to retool and remain competitive.
