One of the two cases of coronavirus in Westerly, R.I., may have been the result of having contact with an infected Utah Jazz player who signed autographs for a child at the Celtics-Jazz game last week, the Westerly police chief said.
Chief Shawn Lacey, via the Providence Journal, said at a press conference Friday that both cases in town were children. One is a preschooler and the other a second-grader. Lacey said one child recently returned from a cruise to the Bahamas. The other had been to the game at TD Garden on March 6 and got an autograph from a Jazz player who later tested positive for the virus.
While Lacey didn't name the player, two Jazz players, Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, have tested positive for coronavirus.
Students and staff at the Springbrook Elementary School, which the second-grader attends, are on a two-week quarantine, officials told the Journal.
