The Boston Celtics are the favorites to win the 2023 NBA Finals at many sportsbooks, and one New England Patriots legend is betting on the iconic franchise to win its 18th banner this season.
Ex-Patriots cornerback and Pro Football Hall of Famer Ty Law was one of several former Boston athletes at the WynnBET Sportsbook at Encore Boston Harbor on Tuesday as in-person sports betting officially kicked off in Massachusetts.
Wagering on the C's to win the championship in June wasn't the only bet Law made, though. He also bet on Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
Law told a crowd of people "I'm going to go $1,000 on the Celtics to win it all, and I gotta keep 24 in there, so $240 on the Chiefs."
The Celtics entered Tuesday with a league-best 36-15 record and a 2.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference standings.
In addition to Law, former Patriots left tackle Matt Light, former Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon, former Celtics forward Cedric Maxwell, former Bruins forward Shawn Thornton, and former Boston Blades defenseman and Olympic gold medalist Angela Ruggiero also made wagers at the WynnBET Sportsbook on Tuesday.
Betting on mobile devices is expected to go live in Massachusetts in March.
