Vincent Poirier injury: Celtics big man out 4-to-6 weeks with fractured finger

The Boston Celtics' big men are dropping like flies.

Vincent Poirier needs surgery on his right pinkie finger after fracturing it during Monday's practice and is expected to miss approximately six weeks, the Celtics announced Tuesday.

The news comes one day after Boston announced Robert Williams will miss at least three weeks due to a hip injury.

That means the only big men on the Celtics' active roster are Enes Kanter, Daniel Theis and rookie Grant Williams.

Boston does have 7-foot-6 rookie Tacko Fall on a two-way contract, of course, and it's possible the C's could recall him from the Maine Red Claws to provide some depth in their frontcourt ahead of Wednesday's game in Dallas against the Mavericks.

Fall has appeared in just one NBA game this season, playing four minutes against the New York Knicks on Oct. 26.

Poirier was averaging 1.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.2 blocks in 4.9 minutes per game off the bench before his injury.

UPDATE (Wednesday, Dec. 18, 10:55 a.m. ET): Poirier underwent successful surgery on his finger Wednesday morning at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, the team announced (and the Celtics big man confirmed).

He's expected to return in four to six weeks.
