Here's where Tatum, Brown rank on SI's Top 100 NBA players list

The start of the 2021-22 NBA season is less than a month away, which means we're going to see a lot of top 100 or top 50 player rankings come out over the next couple weeks.

One of the most popular preseason lists is Sports Illustrated's Top 100 players ranking. Three players from the Boston Celtics have made the list, which wraps up Thursday when spots No. 10 through No. 1 are revealed.

Celtics guard Marcus Smart came in at No. 60.

Forsberg: Who should round out the starting five for the Celtics?

But the real question was where Boston's two All-Star wings, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, would be ranked on the list.

We got the answer Wednesday morning.

  • No. 27: Jaylen Brown
  • No. 13: Jayson Tatum

There's not too much to disagree on with these rankings. There are a couple players ahead of Brown who you could argue should be behind him, including Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant, Jazz center Rudy Gobert and perhaps Heat center Bam Adebayo.

Brown actually jumped 11 spots from last year when he was ranked No. 38 on SI's list before the 2020-21 season. The jump was warranted, as the 24-year-old forward had the best year of his career, including a personal best 24.7 points per game scoring average.

Tatum was No. 17 last year, so he also got a deserved bump in the rankings after his own career year. The 23-year-old wing scored a career-high 26.4 points per game and made his second consecutive All-Star Game appearance. He also scored 50-plus points four times last season, including a Celtics record-tying 60 points against the San Antonio Spurs in April.

The one player ahead of Tatum who might not deserve to be is Paul George, but the Clippers forward did have a very good 2020-21 season, helping lead L.A. to its first ever Western Conference Finals appearance.

Tatum has the talent to become a top 10 player. He's already knocking on the door, and after bulking up in the offseason, we could see a stronger, better and more motivated Tatum in 2021-22.
