Will we see more Kemba Walker on Sunday against the Trail Blazers?

BOSTON -- It turns out we’ll see a little bit more of Kemba Walker on Sunday afternoon against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Walker, who scored 16 points in 19 minutes against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, is expected to play more today against the Blazers according to Celtics head coach Brad Stevens.

Prior to today’s game, Stevens said Walker’s window of minutes to play against the Blazers will be in the 17-23 minute range which is slightly more than he was slated to play in Boston’s 119-112 loss to the Bucks on Friday.

Don't miss NBC Sports Boston's coverage of Celtics-Trail Blazers, which begins Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Celtics Pregame Live followed by tip-off at 3:30 p.m. You can also stream the game on the MyTeams App.

Stevens added that the team will gradually look to increase Walker’s amount of court time as he continues to strengthen a sore left knee injury that resulted in him missing six of the last 10 games played by Boston following the All-Star break.

Boston has kept Walker’s load relatively light since the league’s restart in Orlando, Fla., with the four-time All-Star not fully participating in practices along with being limited in scrimmages.

Seeing Walker on the sideline is indeed an unusual sight when you consider he has been among the NBA’s most durable players during his eight seasons in Charlotte.

This season, Walker has missed 14 games after having missed a total of just six games in the last four seasons combined.

His lack of activity in Orlando, Fla. has concerned some that Walker's injury may be more serious.

But his play against the Bucks (16 points on 5-for-9 shooting) certainly squashed some of those health concerns.

As much as Walker wants to be on the floor as much as possible, he has taken the precautionary measures in stride.

“I knew what I was coming into, I just got to stay positive,” Walker said. “It’s all about the bigger picture. My minutes will gradually go up game by game, depending on how my knee reacts after every game. I’m feeling good.”

Walker is second on the Celtics in scoring this season, with 21.1 points per game. He’s also averaging 4.9 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game.
