Brady talks Trump on night of Republican debate

FOXBORO -- With Donald Trump set to debate other Republican presidential candidates on Wednesday night, Tom Brady was asked about the man he recently called "a good friend."

Brady didn't have any advice for Trump before the debates, but when the Patriots quarterback was asked if Trump "has what it takes" to win, Brady replied: "I hope so. It would be great. He'd have a putting green on the White House lawn. I'm sure of that."

In a recent interview with WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show, Brady explained why he had a cap with Trump's slogan -- "Make America Great Again" --in his locker.

"[Trump] sent it to me via [Patriots owner Robert Kraft]," Brady said. "I've known him since 2002 when I judged one of his beauty pageants. Imagine that. I was a judge for a Miss USA pageant in 2002. I've known him for a long time. He always gives me a call with different types of motivational speeches at different times. Now that he's running for president, he sent me a hat. He gave it to RKK a couple weeks ago so it found its way in my locker."

At the time, Brady said he wasn't sure as to whether or not he'd vote for Trump.

"I don't know," Brady said. "Am I gonna vote for him? That's a good question. Honestly, he's a good friend and we've had a lot of time on the golf course together over the years. Probably not as much recently, but in my younger days when I had more time that I could spend doing those types of things. Before there were kids, we spent a lot of time golfing together and so forth. It's pretty amazing what he's been able to accomplish as an entrepreneur, a television star, and now running for political office. People who can do those types of things, transition into different arenas, and still have that type of appeal and carryover -- he's obviously appealing to a lot of people. And he's a hell of a lot of fun to play golf with."
