Jamie Collins checks in today as the 46th ranked player on the Pro Football Focus “Top 101 NFL Players from 2015” list.
Collins was ranked 40th last year. PFF’s rankings are solely based on analytics from the 2015 season. All positions are graded equally so there’s no bump given to a player who plays a more difficult or crucial position like quarterback compared to, say, tight end.
Collins checked in right behind Justin Houston of the Chiefs. Good company. And company Collins would be happy to keep since Houston, an outside linebacker, signed a six-year, $101M deal last year with $52M guaranteed. Collins is set to be a free agent at the end of 2016.
The website’s graders noted that Collins was effective as a rusher, run-stopper and in coverage. They also pointed out he wasn’t beaten for a touchdown in coverage all season. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it through the playoffs with that streak intact. Collins was beaten twice for touchdowns by Owen Daniels of the Broncos in the first half of the AFC Championship game.
A total of seven Patriots made the list. So far five – Collins, Jabaal Sheard (49), Patrick Chung (62), Dont’a Hightower (63) and Devin McCourty (94) have been unveiled.
The top 25 players are will be released on Thursday.
