Jets reportedly get off easy for Revis tampering

The Jets will be fined $100,000 for owner Woody Johnson’s December remarks in which he mooned over Darrelle Revis. Revis, at the time, was in the employ of the Patriots. Revis has since joined the Jets.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, who decried the Patriots’ pettiness in filing tampering charges against Johnson, was the first to get the news of the light penalty.

Mehta reports that the Patriots will not be penalized for remarks made by owner Robert Kraft at the owner’s meetings when Kraft said that, as a fan, he wished Revis were still a Patriot.

Obviously, the penalty is so miniscule to the Jersey-based team, it’s almost a rebuke to the Patriots for filing the tampering charge in the first place.

In 2008, the San Francisco 49ers were docked a fifth-round pick for contacting the agent of Bears linebacker Lance Briggs during the season. Briggs never joined the Niners

So the closer you are to the league office, the smaller the penalty. Geographically speaking.
