Former Patriots tight end Scott Chandler had knee surgery that he said will "probably keep me from playing again."

Chandler's wife Alissa tweeted a statement from her husband that said in part, "This surgery will take me out this season, and probably keep me from playing again."

Before the start of the new league year in March, Chandler was released by the Patriots with a failed physical designation. He had spent four seasons with the Buffalo Bills before signing with New England before last season.

Chandler, 30, made 23 catches for 259 yards and four touchdowns last season. He played in every game but one but was clearly hampered at the end
