The Patriots are getting closer to the 53-man limit by the hour.
According to a source, the team has waived running back Joey Iosefa. The Patriots have also released offensive lineman Jon Halapio.
Iosefa factored into the "big back" competition in New England along with LeGarrette Blount and Tyler Gaffney. Gaffney was also released on Saturday. Iosefa also saw some reps in a fullback role during training camp. In preseason work, he saw 41 total snaps and carred six times for seven yards. Iosefa spent much of last season on the Patriots practice squad before earning a call up to the 53-man roster soon after Blount suffered a season-ending hip injury. Iosefa does have practice-squad eligibility.
Halapio announced on Twitter that he and the Patriots had parted ways. The 2014 sixth-round pick has bounced from the Patriots to the Broncos, Cardinals and back to the Patriots since turning pro. He's also spent time with two different Fall Experimental Football League clubs. He played both right guard and left guard for the Patriots this summer.
I've been released by the @Patriots , but I want to thank Coach Belichick & the entire organization for believing in me. More to follow...— Jon Halapio (@Jhalapio67) September 3, 2016
