Patriots go all-in for Brady's 40th: Goats, cards and avocado ice cream

FOXBORO -- The Patriots usually don't do all that much for Tom Brady's birthday at training camp practice. The crowd in attendance typically sings him "Happy Birthday" once or twice and that's about it.

There was singing on Thursday, but that was far from the only indication that August 3rd was Brady's 40th. Things started in the Patriots facilities before practice.

"Very old," Patriots safety Devin McCourty said. "I think he has a lot of fun with it. A lot of guys sung ‘Happy Birthday’ in the locker room . . .

“Forty years old, still our best player, most professional player, leader, a guy everyone follows in the locker room. Even though it’s his birthday, and everyone has birthdays, it’s just a reminder in training camp, probably one of the toughest times of the year for us, to see a guy like that still continue at a high level and really take every day like he’s a rookie. It’s really a good example for guys here.”

Brady wasn't asked to go out and try to win his job as though he was a rookie on Thursday. It was a lighter session for him and the rest of the Patriots regulars (including McCourty), but that didn't temper the celebration happening beyond the practice fields.

The team mounted the word GOAT by a mini-petting zoo filled with -- you guessed it -- goats for fans who wanted to take pictures. There was also a giant birthday card made of poster board available at a booth for fans to leave Brady a birthday message. About 10 white poster boards were filled with well wishes and drawings for the future Hall of Famer by the time practice ended.

Patriots staffers also showed off some Brady-themed birthday cupcakes from Cupcake Charlie's with spiced avocado and zucchini cake and chili-lime cream cheese frosting. When media members returned to the media work room area, the cupcakes (as well as Organic Cado avocado "frozen dessert") were available.

Football and healthy(-ish) snacks. Sounds like Brady's kind of party.
