Report: Jets claim ex-Patriots DE Kony Ealy off waivers

The New York Jets have claimed defensive end Kony Ealy, who was released Saturday by the Patriots, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Ealy was acquired by the Patriots in the offseason from the Carolina Panthers for a second-round draft pick. He struggled at times in camp and in preseason games for the Pats.

Here's part of what Bill Belichick said Saturday after his release:

"Nobody's fault. He worked hard. We worked hard. A lot of effort put in, but in the end, we didn't feel like this was going to work out. It gives him an opportunity about a week ahead of next week to hopefully create a better opportunity for himself. I think he deserved that. He did everything we asked him to do. It just didn't work out for either one of us like we hoped it would."
