Teams have called the Patriots this week to inquire about a trade for running back Dion Lewis, the Boston Herald reported.
The Patriots have a crowded depth chart at running back with Mike Gillislee, James White and Rex Burkhead all getting more carries than Lewis' two for nine yards in the season-opening loss to the Chiefs Thursday night.
More from the Herald's Patriots notebook by Stephen Hewitt and Jeff Howe:
Teams from around the league have taken notice of the Pats’ depth at running back, and a theme is continuing to resurface.
Multiple squads reached during the offseason, including as recently as the past week, to express their interest in Dion Lewis, according to sources.
Lewis, 26, played seven games last season after he came back from knee surgery. He's in the final year of his contract and is making a $1.2 million base salary this season.Â
