The New England Revolution weren't able to close the 2020 MLS regular season with a victory, falling 2-0 on the road against the Philadelphia Union.

The Union improved to 9-0-0 at home and won the Supporters' Shield for finishing with the league's best record (14-5-4). Philly will have home field advantage throughout the 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.

New England finished the regular season at 8-7-8 and secured the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Revolution had already clinched a spot in the playoffs before Sunday's match, but now they must win a play-in game versus the No. 9 seed Montreal Impact on Nov. 20 at Gillette Stadium. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals.

The Revs fell behind in the 42nd minute when Union forward Sergio Santos scored on a rebound.

Union forward Cory Burke doubled his team's lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute.

The Revolution played the Union five times this season with four losses and one tie.
