Teal Bunbury's second annual Back to School Kickoff shopping spree event was a massive success.
Last year, the New England Revolution forward raised money to help 10 Boston-area families in need with back-to-school shopping. This year, he set a goal of $12,000 to help 40 inner-city families afford school supplies, clothing, and anything else they needed.
Bunbury successfully raised $12k to provide 40 Boston-area families with a $300 gift certificate at the Target Boston South Bay Store in Dorchester, Mass. He spoke about the experience with reporters on Friday.
“I want to say thank you to all the amazing Revolution fans, friends, family members, and anybody who helped donate and make this special event possible," Bunbury said. " The families were so grateful and we were able to raise $12,000, our goal, so super proud and happy about that. Just being able to see their faces, we went down to Target and hung out in the parking lot, didn’t go in with them just to keep our distance and be safe.
"But just to see some of the families and meet some of the kids, a couple of those kids brought ‘thank you’ cards for the team and what not. So it was just a special moment to just see a community coming together. And like I’ve been saying, it’s all about sharing God’s love right now during these challenging times. The event was amazing and hopefully we’re going to continue to grow it, a lot of people need help and I think this is a great way we can interact as fans, as human beings, and help others.”
Once again, an incredible gesture from the Revs veteran. We're looking forward to what Bunbury has in store for this great cause next year.
