2007 Patriots redux? Tom Brady should love these stats about Bucs WRs

There reportedly were many factors that led to Tom Brady choosing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency.

But we can guess what's at the top of the list.

The former New England Patriots quarterback will get to throw to a talented group of pass-catchers in Tampa Bay, led by wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans.

How talented, you ask? Pro Football Focus pulled this notable 2019 stat about Godwin and Evans, who ranked third and 13th in the NFL in receiving yards, respectively:

PFF gave Godwin a 90.7 overall grade in 2019 -- second-highest in the NFL behind the Saints' Michael Thomas -- while Evans also cracked the top 10 at 85.7.

Those numbers put them in an elite group of just five wide receiver duos, one of which was the Wes Welker-Randy Moss tandem that tore up the NFL catching passes from Brady in 2007.

Here's another Godwin-Evans stat with the same angle, courtesy of NFL Research:

The Patriots' 16-0 2007 campaign arguably was the best of Brady's career: He threw an NFL-record 50 touchdown passes to just eight interceptions and posted a 117.2 passer rating that's the fifth-highest in NFL history.

Will Brady reach that level of success at age 43 in a new offense? Unlikely. But considering what the three-time NFL MVP did with occasionally underwhelming talent in New England, it's scary to think of Tampa Bay's upside if Brady can jell with Godwin and Evans.

Oh, and did we mention the possibility of Antonio Brown joining the Bucs, as well? Maybe those 2007 numbers aren't that far out of reach...
