2019 NFL Predictions: NBC Sports Boston's experts make their picks

The NFL's 100th season kicks off Thursday night, but with a twist.
Instead of the defending Super Bowl champion raising a banner under the spotlight of Opening Night, the league is starting things up with a classic rivalry: Packers at Bears. But while we know how the season will start, what happens over the next five months is a mystery. Can the Patriots make it back to a fourth straight Super Bowl? Which teams will make surprising runs to the playoffs, and which will fall off the map?
We asked the NBC Sports Boston team from our Patriots pregame and postgame shows — Tom E. Curran, Phil Perry, Michael Holley, Matt Cassel, Ted Johnson, and DJ Bean to forecast the future. Here are their predictions for the 2019 NFL season.

SURPRISE PATRIOTS STORYLINE
Tom E. Curran: It shouldn't be a surprise, but folks will act like it is. The offense struggles terribly while the defense plays out of its mind. A 7-6 record heading into Week 13, they'll need to win their final three games to win the AFC East — and they do.
Phil Perry: Jakobi Meyers will end the season as the Patriots' No. 2 receiver.
Michael Holley: They'll have a young tight end who will wind up being respectable (35+ catches).
Matt Cassel: Josh Gordon returns to glory.
Ted Johnson: Ja'Whaun Bentley leads the team in tackles and becomes one of the best ILBs in the NFL.
DJ Bean: Demaryius Thomas ends up being a stud. He's younger than Julian Edelman...
