The sports world gets a much-needed primetime event Thursday night, as the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft will kick off 8 p.m. ET.

The whole thing is virtual -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will announce the picks from his basement -- but we still could see plenty of fireworks, as several teams with top selections reportedly are considering trades.

The New England Patriots may consider one of those trades as they enter one of their most important drafts of the last 20 years. Will the Patriots move up to draft a top-tier quarterback like Tua Tagovailoa to fill Tom Brady's shoes, or will they keep their No. 23 pick to address another pressing roster need?

The hours before the draft always bring tons of rumors and insight, and we're tracking it all right here. Keep refreshing this page for all the latest NFL Draft rumors, news and buzz. (All times Eastern.)

7:15 p.m.: The Redskins are expected to remain at the No. 2 overall pick. They're likely to take Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young, the top-ranked player on our Top 150 Big Board.

6:47 p.m.: File this under unsurprising - the Bengals are expected to make the No. 1 pick in the draft and won't trade down. All signs point to Joe Burrow being the pick and have for quite some time.

6:35 p.m.: Another weapon for Lamar Jackson? The Ravens may be interested in drafting a receiver early to build around the reigning MVP.

6:27 p.m.: The 49ers are reportedly trying to move down, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Niners have two first-round picks but don't pick again after that until the fifth-round, so they may be looking for mid-round picks.

4:33 p.m.: The Lions are looking to move down from the No. 3 pick and one team that they ave called is... the Jacksonville Jaguars. Armed with the Nos. 9 and 20 picks, could the Jaguars be looking to move up for a quarterback, or will it be an offensive tackle?

3:32 p.m.: If you want fireworks, you might want to tune in when the Dallas Cowboys go on the clock at No. 17...

1:30 p.m.: Todd McShay's name has become synonymous with the NFL Draft, but he won't be contributing to ESPN's coverage tonight as he recovers from coronavirus.

12:50 p.m.: It looks like there's quite the game of cat-and-mouse atop this year's NFL Draft -- and the QB-needy Los Angeles Chargers could be involved, too, per Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson.

12:00 p.m.: The Dolphins already have the most picks in the league, but could they pull off a stunner and find a way to move all the way to the top of the board? That's what Mike Florio reports they are trying to do.

10:55 a.m.: We could see several talented NFL players switch teams in draft-night trades -- and Patriots offensive guard Joe Thuney is among them.

10:15 a.m.: For what it's worth, ESPN's two draft experts seem to disagree on whether Jordan Love or Justin Herbert -- two QBs who have been tied to the Patriots -- will be selected first tonight.

9:45 a.m.: The Miami Dolphins reportedly covet LSU's Joe Burrow and have tried to trade up from No. 5 to No. 1 -- but the Cincinnati Bengals aren't budging, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

9:35 a.m.: And so it begins... The Detroit Lions are trying to trade the No. 3 pick, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

7:50 a.m.: Which players could the Patriots target at No. 23? Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports he's heard the team "associated with several players," among them Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet, Alabama safety Xavier McKinney, Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray and Michigan center Cesar Ruiz.

Our Phil Perry also has projected Kmet, McKinney and Murray to New England in recent mock drafts.

7:45 a.m.: A couple news tidbits from Wednesday you may have missed: former Chicago Bears tight end Trey Burton is headed to the Indianapolis Colts, while the Atlanta Falcons are in the mix to acquire the No. 2 overall pick from the Washington Redskins, per FOX Sports' Jay Glazer.
