The New England Patriots' 2020 schedule has yet to officially be released, but we may be seeing an old friend return for a Week 7 matchup in Foxboro.

Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers reportedly will travel to Gillette Stadium for Week 7, according to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Alex Barth.

Garoppolo hasn't played at Gillette Stadium since before the Patriots traded him in 2017, and his return is just six days shy of the three-year anniversary of the trade that sent him to San Francisco.

The 24-year-old put together a fantastic 2019 campaign, which ended up being his first full season with the 49ers after tearing his ACL in 2018. Garoppolo led the Niners to a 13-3 record and threw for 3,978 yards, 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 69.1 percent of his passes. And don't forget he led San Francisco to the Super Bowl last season as well.

While San Francisco was intrigued by the thought of bringing Tom Brady in to take over as QB1, the 49ers ultimately decided Garoppolo is the best option for future success.

Unfortunately, Garoppolo won't faceoff with his former teammate in Brady, rather he'll be competing against either Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer when the time comes.
