Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft is in the books. After the New England Patriots spent their first pick on a quarterback in Mac Jones, they spent Day 2 bolstering their defense.

The Patriots ended up with just two picks on Day 2. Instead of trading down to acquire more pick in Round 2, they traded up from their No. 46 pick to the 38th slot at the cost of a couple of fourth-round picks. They also retained the 96th overall pick, which they obtained as a compensatory selection for losing Tom Brady.

Needless to say, draft analysts were fans of the Patriots moving up for Barmore. Many highlighted his strong fit with the Patriots and his great performances in the College Football Playoffs as reasons that he could outperform his draft slot.

Barmore was considered to be a first-round prospect for most of the draft process too, so the Patriots getting him in Round 2 was a nice value. Even with the team surrendered two fourth-round picks and their origianl second to make the move, experts still loved the move.

All told, Barmore seems like a rock-solid prospect that fits exactly what the Patriots look for in their defensive linemen. And it looks like trading up to get him was a great move for New England.

Perkins wasn't viewed quite as highly as Barmore by most, but he was give solid grades all around. The concerns with Perkins are related to his smaller stature and the fact that he was suspended for half a season by Oklahoma for a failed drug test.

However, the positives are that Perkins had at least five sacks in each of his three seasons at Oklahoma and has good power and toughness. The Patriots should be able to find a way to use him and by adding both Perkins and Barmore, they've certainly upgraded their pass rush and defensive line this offseason.
