Phil Perry grades Patriots taking RB Pierre Strong Jr. in fourth round

The New England Patriots bolstered their running back depth in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by selecting South Dakota State star Pierre Strong Jr. with the 127th overall pick Saturday afternoon.

Strong tallied 1,686 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns in 15 games last season. He also caught 22 passes for 150 receiving yards. He is one of the fastest running backs in the 2022 class after running a 4.37 40-yard dash. The Patriots badly needed speed at the skill positions entering this draft, and they've addressed that weakness by taking Strong on Day 2 and Baylor wide receiver Tyquan Thornton in the second round.
