According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers are completing a new contract that will make him the highest-paid player in the league.
The 49ers and QB Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract, source says. The biggest deal in NFL history on a average-per-year basis.— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) February 8, 2018
Garoppolo's status as highest-paid could soon change with Kirk Cousins' next contract. Still, the $27.5 million his contract will earn him on average is nearly double Tom Brady's $14 million salary for next season.
After the Patriots traded the quarterback for a second-round pick, Garoppolo established himself as one of the best young quarterbacks in the league with an impressive five-start run to the end the season. Garoppolo stepped in on a one-win San Francisco team and won all five of his starts, throwing seven touchdowns and rushing for another.
