Aaron Dobson sounds off on time with Patriots, being labeled a bust

Every year, the NFL Draft is an event that stirs up a lot of memories for NFL players. Some of them, as we saw with N'Keal Harry earlier Thursday, are good.

Others? Not so much.

Just hours before the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday, former New England Patriots receiver Aaron Dobson went on a Twitter rant about his time in New England and some of the memories that people have of him.

It started when Dobson noted that many invoke his name when discussing Bill Belichick's draft-pick busts at the receiver position.

Dobson lasted only three seasons with the Patriots. He played in 24 games and logged 53 catches for 698 yards and four touchdowns. But as Dobson pointed out, if it wasn't for a foot injury, he could've gotten close to a 1,000-yard season as a rookie.

But Dobson never got the chance to do it. He saw a massive decrease in playing time after his first season, and that played a role in his statistical decline.

And as Dobson detailed, he tried to discuss his playing time but never made any headway. In fact, he feels that the questions unfairly led to him being characterized as a problem for the Patriots.

It's definitely worth wondering why the Patriots didn't choose to play the second-round receiver more. He certainly showed promise as a rookie.

That said, Dobson did drop nine passes during his rookie season, and that's something that surely would've bothered Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. So, maybe it was related to that.

Dobson last played in the NFL in 2017 when he was on the Arizona Cardinals' roster during the offseason. Then, he chose to walk away from the sport. It's unfortunate that his tenure in New England didn't work out, as he certainly flashed during his rookie season.
