Best and Worst: Patriots 33, Raiders 8
As Tony Romo and Jim Nantz raved on CBS about the electric feel of the crowd in Mexico City, the producer cut to a shot of Patriots fans massed in the stands who looked like they were watching a documentary on the migration habits of the North Atlantic Salmon.
NEARLY WRECKED ‘EM
Rex Burkhead fumbled on the Patriots first drive and the Patriots were fortunate to get a Dwayne Allen recovery on the play. Burkhead also had two catchable (no easy catches, but catchable) passes elude him in the first half.
Dwayne Allen, after being fairly useless for the first half of the season, had a nice reception and a fumble recovery in the first half.
Kyle Van Noy put a very loud tackle on Jalen Richard in the second quarter, stopping him dead in his tracks and leading to a few replays.
STEP OFF, DURON
Duron Harmon stepped on the head of Raiders wide receiver Johnny Holton after making a pick, sending Holton off the field and into the locker room.
A DRY GILMORE
Stephon Gilmore left the sidelines and headed to the locker room in the third quarter with dehydration. That’s the second time this season Gilmore’s been forced from a game because he didn’t drink enough water. Seems preventable. Danny Amendola also got really thirsty and had to leave.
FACE FULL OF VADAL
Vadal Alexander ran smack into a spinning Jalen Richard and the two went helmet-to-helmet. Problem there? Alexander plays tackle for the Raiders and Richard is one of their running backs.
A JOLT OF LEWIS
The Patriots took over with 33 seconds left in the first half at their own 7 and probably figured they’d be taking a knee before long and trotting to the locker room. But the Raiders allowed Dion Lewis to go right through them for 20 yards on first down which made the Patriots go “Hmmmm….”
Stephen Gostkowski drilled a skyscraping 62-yard field goal just before the half – a career long – to stake the Patriots to a 17-0 halftime lead.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S STILL MORE
Brady opened the second half with a 64-yard bomb to Brandin Cooks for a touchdown to make it 24-0 and basically seal the game.
