Monday is a very sad day for the football community.

The Miami Dolphins confirmed Monday that their legendary head coach Don Shula has died at the age of 90.

Shula spent 33 seasons as an NFL head coach, including the final 27 of his career with the Dolphins. He's still the league's career leader in head coaching wins with 328 in the regular season, and he ranks third in career playoff wins with 19.

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick released the following statement Monday regarding Shula's passing:

"Don Shula is one of the all-time great coaching figures and the standard for consistency and leadership in the NFL. I was fortunate to grow up in Maryland as a fan of the Baltimore Colts who, under Coach Shula, were one of the outstanding teams of that era. My first connection to Coach Shula was through my father, whose friendship with Coach Shula went back to their days in northeast Ohio. I extend my deepest condolences to the Shula family and the Dolphins organization."

Belichick and Shula are two of the best coaches in the history of football, and they've won a combined eight Super Bowl titles as a head coach. It's possible Belichick could break Shula's wins record at some point, but the Patriots coach might need another six or seven seasons of eight-plus wins for that to happen.
