The New England Patriots were able to take home a 16-10 victory on the road against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon. But the win didn't come without a minor incident.
Late in the game, the Bills lost their starting quarterback, Josh Allen, after he took a big hit to the head from Jonathan Jones. Allen was placed into concussion protocol and Matt Barkley had to finish the contest.
Jones was flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play, but that wasn't enough in the mind of Bills head coach Sean McDermott who wanted to see Jones get harsher punishment.
"I thought he should have been thrown out," McDermott said to reporters after Sunday's game. "There's no room in football for that. It's a shame to see a player like Josh -- or any player for that matter -- go down with a hit like that."
McDermott later added:
"I asked for an explanation, and I thought he should've been thrown out. But other than that, I'm not going to get into that at all. That's for the league to get into."
Though the Bills weren't happy with the hit, the league didn't see enough to eject Jones. After the game, the NFL's head of officiating, Al Riveron, confirmed that the referees had made the proper decision as Jones' hit did "not rise to the level" of disqualification, per Vic Carucci.

Prior to Allen's exit, he had completed 13-of-28 passes for 153 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He carried the ball five times for 26 yards and a touchdown.
