Book reveals reported Tom Brady joke Donald Trump made to Robert Kraft

Donald Trump's affinity for the New England Patriots manifests itself in the strangest ways.

Citing reporting from journalist Vicki Ward in her upcoming book about Trump's daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner -- titled "Kushner, Inc." -- the New York Times shared this tidbit about a joke the current U.S. president once made to Patriots owner Robert Kraft about his daughter and quarterback Tom Brady.

He would joke that Ms. Trump could have married Tom Brady, the quarterback for the New England Patriots, and once joked to Robert K. Kraft, the team’s owner, that “Jared is half the size of Tom Brady’s forearm.”

There's context to Trump's quip: In a July 2018 story, the Times reported that when Trump would get frustrated with Kushner, he would joke that he "could have had Tom Brady" as his son-in-law instead of Kushner. According to Trump's first wife, Ivana, Trump even tried to set Ivanka up with Brady several years ago before Brady married supermodel Gisele Bundchen, but Ivanka "wasn't into it."

None of this has much relevance to the present, of course, but it does underscore Trump's close relationships with both Brady and Kraft over the years. Brady has known the current president since 2002 when judged one of Trump's beauty pageants, while Kraft's bond with Trump was strengthened when Trump reached out to him in 2011 following the death of the Patriots owner's wife, Myra.
