Brady: ‘I don't want to bring any drama this year'

FOXBORO - Tom Brady hasn't had time for Alex Guerrero questions lately.

After the news of Julian Edelman's suspension broke, Brady walked away from a back-and-forth with reporters when he was asked about Guerrero and Edelman's relationship.

During his most recent appearance on WEEI's Kirk and Callahan Show, he hung up when he heard what he deemed to be one Guerrero question too many. (Brady said he thinks he'll continue his weekly spot with WEEI, and Chad Finn of the Boston Globe later tweeted that Brady may end up being interviewed by the station's midday show instead.)

On Friday, Brady was asked about Guerrero again. He didn't walk away from the podium inside Gillette Stadium, though. He just explained that he wanted to focus in on football.

“Alex and I, we work together,” Brady said when asked about Guerrero’s current arrangement with the Patriots. “I don’t want to bring any drama this year, you know? I just want to focus on what I want to and be a great football player for this team and try and be a good example in the locker room and provide great leadership. That’s where my focus is."

Guerrero was allowed to travel with the team to Carolina during the preseason, and it seems as though his Patriots travel ban -- issued during last season -- has been lifted. Guerrero, however, was not on the sidelines for any of the team's preseason contests so it appears as though that restriction has carried over from 2017.

"I’m a pretty mentally tough guy," Brady said, "so I deal with a lot of circumstances over a long period of time – 18, 19 years – and I’m excited for the season. I’m really excited for where we’re at, where we’re going, what we got to do. There’s a lot of challenges we’re going to face. I want to feel good, I want to be the best quarterback I can be and that’s a lot of big commitment, daily effort."

Brady also touched on a number of other topics: Who his son Jack has at QB on his fantasy football team, the 10th anniversary of his season-ending ACL injury, Colin Kaepernick and more.
