Chargers add tight end Hunter Henry to active roster for Patriots clash

The Los Angeles Chargers could be getting one of their best offensive players back in the fold for Sunday's AFC Divisional Round playoff matchup with the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

The Chargers announced Monday they've activated tight end Hunter Henry to their active roster from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. This move makes him eligible to play against the Patriots. Henry has not played this season because he's been recovering from a torn ACL suffered in May.

Henry's addition to the active roster give Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and his staff another weapon to prepare for ahead of Sunday.

"He's a very talented player, he's got great receiving skills, he's a threat in the passing game to go along with their other threats in the passing game," Belichick said Monday during a media conference call.  "He's another brick on the pile that we'll have to deal with."

The 23-year-old caught 45 passes for 579 yards and four touchdowns last season. He hauled in eight touchdown receptions as a rookie in 2016. Virgil Green and veteran Antonio Gates have received the bulk of snaps at tight end for the Chargers this season, but neither player has made a huge impact at the position.
