ALLEN PARK, Michigan -- The Patriots have an ugly history of chopping the hair off of their rookies. Not "ugly" as in mean-spirited. "Ugly" as in . . . ugly.
But if rookie Chase Winovich -- he of the long blonde hair that has flowed from his helmet since his days at the University of Michigan -- is plunked down in a chair and goes one on one with a razor, he'll be OK with it.
He's not sure if that's in the cards, but if it is he says he'll get by.
"For me, it is a source of pride and strength to a certain degree playing football," Winovich said of his locks. "But at the end of the day, it's just hair and if they really wanted to cut it, I wouldn't have any qualms about it. I'm part of a team. It's not about me. It's about what the team wants.
"I've expressed that to some of the leaders so I think that makes them less inclined to try to cut it anyways. That's kind of human nature."
First-round pick N'Keal Harry was told before camp that the Patriots like to buzz the hair off their rookies, and he was devastated.
